There is a new style icon in the assent, and it’s a little known actress, meet your new inspiration: Lupita Nyong'o.
Things are about to explode for Lupita, who is starring in the upcoming film from director, Steve McQueen, 12 Years A Slave. The film is receiving rave reviews after it showed for the first time at the Toronto Film Festival this summer and even though it’s a whole four and a half months until the Oscars, many are arguing that the race for the golden trophies is already a one horse race.
Starring alongside Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt is no small task, especially given that the actress landed the role straight after graduating from Yale in 2012. That’s right not only is she super talented she is super intelligent too. Some people get all the luck!

With your name being mentioned in the same breath as the Oscars comes the need to have a unbelievable wardrobe. Lupita Nyong'o is rising to the task with considerable ease. At the premiere of 12 Years A Slave in Toronto Lupita hit the style spreads with her long white finely pleated Prada gown with gold embellishment. Following up such a fashion hit, the actress then turned fashion heads at Paris Fashion Week, sitting front row with the likes of Lena Dunham and threw Michelle Dockery into the style shade with her vivid pink short dress. Nothing suggests there is a new style icon in the assent than a front row appearance at Miu Miu.
Evidently Lupita’s has Mrs Prada’s seal of approval, as at the LA premiere this week she wore a vivid printed white dress from Prada’s Spring Summer 2014 collection. Tying everything together nicely with her playful make-up look.

Away from the red carpet Lupita’s less formal wardrobe is also of note, at this week’s Variety’s screening series of the film in Hollywood, the breakout star donned print. Wearing a Pre Fall Erdem floral dress and then changing into a black and yellow printed Prada shorts look. It was a lesson in how to let print do all the talking and how florals can still be youthful.
With the film campaign in full swing expect to see much more of Lupita Nyong'o and her wardrobe which subtly tips the rules for red carpet dressing on its head. Check out the trailer for her debut film below.
