Matthew Williamson Gets Us In The Summer Mood With His How-To Sketches

15 May 2014 by

The sun is shining and that summery feeling has well and truly flooded into Grazia HQ. There's bare legs and sandals aplenty! And we're not the only ones. Matthew Williamson, he of the gorgeously feminine creations, has add a touch of glamour to today's summer mood with an exclusive sneak peek at his fresh-from-the-studio sketches. Each illustration captures what summer is all about – aka: one long party – and shows us how to dress for each occasion, whether it's going hippy at a festival or adding a splash of neon to your Ascot ensemble.

You can see our faves in the gallery below - and while we're at it, Grazia Daily took the chance to nab a chat with Mr MW himself...

Tell us a bit more about these summer season sketches?
"For the festival girl, I imagined how one of my girls might style a simple white dress from the summer collection for Glastonbury or Port Eliot in Cornwall. She's got that bohemian, un-done vibe - vintage boots from a trip to Marrakech, mirrored aviators from my collaboration with Linda Farrow and of course, a daisy chain in her hair - it's my flower of SS14. This saffron red chiffon gown is just classic glamour. The chiffon drapes and moves beautifully - I tried to capture that in the sketch."

What's your most memorable summer party?
"I've had some great summer parties but think my favourite was on a boat a few years ago for a best friend's birthday. We went from island to island, from Italy to Greece. It was an epic four-day party and a tough one to beat."

Whose style encapsulates summer for you?
"Summer is one of those times when a free-spirited attitude to dressing works so well - it's that vision of seventies bohemia that's my constant reference. Talitha Getty's relaxed glamour is truly iconic - I love the photos of her in Morocco taken by Patrick Lichfield."
