When we were five Laura Ashley was as couture as it got, but Mary Kate and Ashley have revealed that the majority of Michelle Tanner's (their character on Full House, duh) wardrobe was made up of adult pieces. We're talking about Chanel and Marc Jacobs, which was cut to fit. Now is the time to point out that they started playing Michelle when they were just six months old.

In an interview with The Edit Ashley credits the show as sparking their love of fashion (and stamina for unsociable working hours) as she said '[On Full House] we'd be in six-hour fittings three times a week, because we had to wear 12 different outfits. We were designing clothes for ourselves as we were so petite.' She adds: 'So I think that is when we became obsessed with fit, and now the obsession has become a profession.'

We remember Michelle stomping about in little sailors outfits and denim dungarees - more OshKosh than Oscar de la Renta. This sounds like the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon watching Full House clips on YouTube in the name of fashion research.

Since Mary Kate and Ashley retired from their straight to VHS movie careers and turned to designing cashmere and the most expensive backpacks on the planet, these 5ft somethings hide behind their black out shades and keep their traps shut. The twins explain 'anonymity is a word we talk about all the time. In life and in clothes.'

But their hobo style revolution, where they drowned in maxi skirts and hid behind wacky shades, wasn't about anonymity. The twins explain that this happened because they were cold moving to New York from LA.

As for the paparazzi Ashley says: 'There is a threshold in New York, and once you pass that and are considered a New Yorker, they leave you alone. But we’re at the office every day, then home or out for dinner, so there aren’t the opportunities for them to take pictures.'

On another note, their Net-A-Porter editorial photographed by Miguel Riveriego where they are swamped in matching oatmeal cashmere is the stuff of dreams. Get ready Pinterest, we have a feeling this is a shoot which is going to be shared over and over and over...
