They’ve got a naughty reputation as the design duo behind the most insanely expensive bags ever! But now our favourite twinnies, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen have wisely decided that the likelihood of most young stylish ladies slashing a flat-deposit-amount of dollar on a backpack might be quite slim. Way slim.
While we’ve seen some seriously spenny backpacks and totes from their premium fashion line, The Row, going for a whopping £34,000, MK and Ash are now launching a line of handbags for their second line and firm Grazia Fashion Ed favourite, Elizabeth and James.
Anticipating a media flurry of speculation over the price of the leather arm-candy, Mary-Kate told WWD “We wanted the price point to be strong, the price point is below [Alexander] Wang and [Phillip] Lim but above Marc [Jacobs] and Tory [Burch].” We particularly enjoy that she uses a mixture of designers first and last names and presumes everyone knows who she’s talking about! Ashley also butted in with a paricularly amazing nugget, “I love black, I love backpacks, too.”
So what does that menacingly vague price description mean for us? Well, typically an Alexander Wang shoulder bag costs £700, while a Tory Burch one will set you back about £500. That leaves the new Elizabeth and James bag costing us anywhere between there! £600 for their lovely leather backpack? That sits much better with us than £34K thank you very much.
