Whenever we hear celebrities profess to be just regular people when it comes to love, (the classic reference being Julia Roberts’ ‘I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her,’ speech in Notting Hill) our hackles are immediately raised. Because let’s be honest – nothing about an A-lister’s life is normal.

And indeed, over the past week the disparities between pedestrian love and paparazzi love were laid well and truly bare as two of Hollywood’s highest profile romances went through different but equally bizarre marriage milestones. First we had Paltrow-Martin conscious uncoupling shebang complete with grandiose statements about the state of modern marriage. Typically after a break up we find ourselves keeping the blinds drawn and watching an unending stream of romcoms (Notting Hill, for example), but for Gwynnie et al its all about rebranding pain into a vaguely new age journey. Whatever works, obviously – but there can be no pretence that it’s anything ressembling the reality of the experience for the rest of us hoi polloi.

Johnny Depp & Amber Heard: Engagament Bling Sharing

Now we’ve got Johnny Deep wearing his fiancée Amber Heard’s engagement bling on his left hand. While rumours of the upcoming union have been widespread, nothing had been confirmed until Johnny told AP, “The fact that Im wearing a chick’s ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle.’ While his other half has also been spotted sporting the sparkler, it is believed the band was too big for her so JD’s been representing instead.

Now forgive us but should we have scored some megawatt finger candy, there’s no way we’d be giving it up so quickly. And we’re also not sure how we feel about the man-ice – while we’re all for equality some things should be sacred. It's also kind of Simon Cowell, right? But perhaps Johnny's the trailblazer and our menfolk are soon to be emulating the actor, demanding some serious carat action of their own.

All we can say is the modern celebsville wedding rules do little dispell the perception that LALAland is a loooong way away from the everyday. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any updates on A-list wedding etiquette until then let us know how you feel about the man-gagement ring in the comments below or on the Grazia Facebook page.
