For Marc Jacobs' final campaign for Louis Vuitton, he called upon six of his muses from his time at the helm of LV. Steven Meisel photographed Catherine Deneuve, Sofia Coppola, Gisele Bündchen, Fan Bingbing, Caroline de Maigret and Edie Campbell in the all black showgirl-inspired collection. The women sat for classic portraits, which are both celebratory and emotional. Modern day Mona Lisas, you might say!
WWD report that the six images will run in magazines all together, resembling a portrait gallery. Edie is drenched in feathers this time and isn't naked bar LV graffiti like on the runway. The six women wear black feathers and exquisite embellishement - we're drooling over the beautiful bucket Noé bag. On another note - Gisele Bündchen has the most fabulous lion hair we have ever seen.
'It was a very emotional shoot, and I find this shows in the images. It’s not a melancholic campaign. It’s really celebrating women who inspire Marc,' said Frédéric Winckler, Vuitton’s communications and events director. Of course Sofia Coppola features in Marc's final campaign, as she starred in the first ever Marc Jacobs fragrance campaign and designed a range of totes for LV. Marc Jacobs has said of Sofia: 'She is young and sweet and beautiful. The epitome of this girl I fantasize of.'
Back in September, at the Spring Summer 2014 Louis Vuitton show, it was announced that Marc Jacobs was leaving after 16 years at the house. In November it was confirmed that Nicolas Ghesquière is taking the reins, becoming creative director at Louis Vuitton.
Marc is a man of many muses, and often has the likes of Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss on his arm. See his other fashion pals in the gallery below...
