Earlier this year Madonna was crowned the highest-earning celebrity by Forbes, so it's hardly a big shocker that they have named the Material Girl as the highest-paid musician of 2013 beating Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi and Jay Z. Madonna earned a staggering $125 million over the past year, making her the highest-paid musician on the planet.

So let's look at the numbers. Although her MDMA album sold less than 1 million copies, her stadium tour grossed $305 million. Gulp. The concert (which saw fans hand over more than $100 per ticket) earned her the Top Touring Award at the Billboard Music Awards. Forbes estimate that the queen of pop earned £80 million ($125 million) between June 2012 and June 2013, thanks to her Material Girl clothing like, her fragrances and merchandise sales.

In second place, is Lady Gaga with $80 million, as she grossed over $160 million on her latest tour before her hip injury. Forbes report that if she had finished the tour she would have topped $200 million. Plus ARTPOP album was released after they did their complicated number crunching, so perhaps Gaga will come in at number one next year!

Bon Jovi came in third with a cool $79 mil, grossing over $3 million from each city on the 'Because We Can' tour. Coldplay come in fifth with $64 million, the Bieber came in sixth place with $58 million and Taylor Swift came seventh with $55 million. In other news, Calvin Harris was crowned the highest-earning DJ in the world, making $46 million from his shows in Las Vegas and writing and producing songs. This sounds like the perfect excuse to have a Madonna moment to us. Let's look at some of her greatest moments in the gallery below...
