As we reported yesterday, Victoria and David Beckham have generously cleared out 20 boxes filled with 500 pieces of designer clobber from their wardrobe for the British Red Cross Shop Drop to raise money for the Philippines. The couple have selected 100 pairs of Victoria's heels, David's baseball caps and a selection of Dolce & Gabbana suits, including the swanky white one below. We also know that the beige parachute dress VB wore to the Venice Film Festival is in one of the boxes. Yeep!
All the iconic Beckham pieces will go on sale at the Kensington & Chelsea Red Cross shop TODAY, with extended opening hours from 11am to 8pm. We expected that 69 Old Church St would turn into fashion chaos - and we weren't wrong as film crews, dozens of photographers and, of course, shoppers waited for the doors to open. Naturally Grazia Daily was there amongst the fashion throng ready to pounce on the Manolos. There are 500 Beckham pieces on sale today and organisers are hoping that the couple's collected style gems will raise half a million pounds.
The Beckham designer gear in the window will be auctioned with the highest bidder announced at the end of the day. So how much did shoppers pay for a Beckham original? A suit is £125, Jeans are £50, David's signature baseball caps are £25, heels are £100 and scarves are £25. There was a 'high value' section, including a lime Cavalli jacket for £175 and a Posh Spice leather top and skirt combo for £125.
So who was the first person in the queue? Meet Mr Benjamin Brazil. He was innocently watching ITV's Daybreak with his girlfriend in bed when she asked him to buy her some Victoria Beckham shoes. Shivering in the queue he said: 'It's the worst decision she's ever made for me to come down here!' She's a size 5 and VB is a 4 and half (tiny feet), but she said she'll make them fit! But his girlfriend helped make the final decision, as he text her pictures of the stilettos and she choose a black pair of Dolces for £100. He took the day off work, but his boss was totally fine with it and even joked he could use company card. We think he must be entering a best boyfriend of the year competition or something.
So which other VB belongings left the shop in Red Cross shopping bags? Clarissa Hoy, a fashion student living in London, bought a pair of pale blue floral Estilo heels for £100, which she says were a real bargain as she reckons they would be worth almost £1,000. Jealous! Fashion blogger, Ajlina Matluma, picked up the lime green fringed Cavalli jacket embellished in gold buttons for £175. She put it on as soon as she left the store, doing her best Victoria Beckham pout for the photogs.
The David Beckham mens pieces were also popular with the shoppers as stylist Gabrielle Teare said: 'The nicest stuff here is the mens. I got this cashmere Dolce & Gabbana suit jacket.' Jordan Silverstone, who joined the queue at 9.30, bought a Dolce & Gabbana black tuxedo as he said: 'He is my generation of footballers, maybe I'll wear it at my wedding - it might even fit then.'
