We have been saying for a while now that Lily McMenamy, the one with lips bigger than Lindsey Wixson and eyebrows stronger than Cara Delevingne, is one of the hottest new models around. She has stomped down the catwalk for everyone from Chanel to Saint Larent and went topless down the runway for Mr Marc Jacobs. Now she has ticked another goal off the supermodel bucket list, by winking on the cover of i-D Magazine.
The 19-year-old daughter of Kristen McMenamy who is known for her awkward angles and one-of-a-kind dark, witchy look strips to a stars and stripes American Apparel bikini and silver DKNY skirt inside the mag. While on the cover it's all about her full red lips and wonky smile, with her hair styled into a flicky '50s style. You'll know by now that here at Grazia Daily we love a good flashback, so check out Lily's mum Kristen's cover from when she did the i-D wink back in 1993.
Lils can't remember her first catwalk expeirence as she walked for Chanel with her mummy when she was just a baby. She told i-D: 'I don’t have much recollection of it, but I’m pretty sure that happened, in my Mum’s arms. I heard it was Chanel, but I’m not sure.' Now if we walked in a Chanel show as a child that would forever be our 'interesting fact about ourselves' - not something we would forget.
But Lily talked to i-D about a catwalk show she can remember, Hedi Slimane's first show for Saint Laurent. She said that: 'I’ve told this story a million times, but I moved to Paris to be a waitress, to be a whatever, and then I got introduced to the boss here [Next Paris] by my hot model friend… I thought, ‘I guess I can try it, it’s kind of lame to do the same thing as your mum but I can try it, just to see.’
She added: 'Then Paris Fashion Week came round in a matter of days and they made me a card and sent me off to casting with all the other models. I was so excited about Saint Laurent, I was the first to get there, it was Hedi himself doing the casting and yeah I walked for him. I walked super awkwardly and he was like, ‘Yeah, this is perfect, you embody the collection.’
Kristen also was a bit unsure about Lily following in her footsteps as back in October at the Tim Walker exhibition she said exclusively to Grazia Daily: ‘It would be hypocritical of me not to want her to be in modelling, as it’s been my dream my whole life and I got rejected by everyone. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I didn’t like her walking. I didn’t like it at first, but I got used to it.’ Well we have a feeling that Lily's modelling career isn't going to fade any time soon, so Kristen will have to get used to seeing her daughter's face plastered on the newstands.
