Not Convinced By Kristen Stewart For Chanel? Here's 8 Reasons Why You Should Be

11 December 2013 by

So it's official: Kristen Stewart is the latest face of Chanel. The sultry star popped up on the FROW at the French fashion house's Métiers d’Art show, which took place in Dallas yesterday, looking as sartorially effortless as ever in a pair of wide-legged, high-waisted trousers with a minxy crop-top and a sweater slung round her waist. Accessorised with her artfully dishevelled hair, a smoky eye and her brand new tattoo on show, Kristen brings a whole new, utterly edgy meaning to 'Chanelegance'.

So what's the verdict on Chanel's new coup? Some were dismayed that the brunette beauty has nabbed the hottest gig in fashland and admittedly, she's hardly a tweed-wearing, pearl necklace kinda gal. But that's what makes the move all the more fitting. Not convinced? We've got a few points for your consideration...

1. Karl Lagerfeld has a penchant for edgy muses.

The outlandish designer does love a maverick (see Alice Dellal) as well as outspoken stars (hello Lily Allen) so it's little wonder K-Stew, who marches to the beat of her own drum, has caught his eye. The pair first met when he shot her for Vanity Fair back in June 2012, after which Kristen gave the paps the middle finger. She certainly brings dollops of rock chick attitude to all that couture.

2. Kristen is A-list pedigree.

While her fellow young Hollywood heroine Jennifer Lawrence is currently fronting up Dior, K-Stew is her darker counterpart. She has an equally large fanbase, but a less goofy reputation and it can't have escaped Karl's attention that Kristen was the biggest talking point at his couture show earlier this year.

3. Kristen has already cemented her campaign credentials.

The 23-year-old posed for another luxury French brand when she fronted Balenciaga's Florabotanical fragrance and at the time, designer Nicholas Ghesquière praised her sheer coolness. Now that Ghesquière has moved onto Louis Vuitton, rumours have been swirling that K-Stew would also leave - and who better to chum up with than King Karl?

4. There's a stream of Chanel-perfect appearances coming our way.

We're due to see the actress starring in Camp X-Ray, Sils Maria and Anesthesia in 2014 so what better time than now for a major brand to snap her up? The bevy of red carpets she'd due to hit while on promo tours next year equals many an opportunity for Kristen to showcase Karl's wares. Score!

5. Sils Maria adds to her Frenchy credentials.

Kristen plays Valentine in the film that finished shooting in Switzerland earlier this year. It's headed up by Olivier Assayas - the French director behind the film Paris, je t'aime - and it also stars Juliette Binoche, the iconic French actress. Hmm, sounds right up Karl's cinema-chic street, non?

6. Kristen has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Speaking of Frenchiness, there's no denying that K-Stew is not your classic A-list bombshell. Instead, she oozes Carine Roitfeld-esque nonchalant glamour and sex appeal that teeters on the edge of plain rudeness. Considering she's representing the Paris-Dallas collection, that mix of American boldness with a lip-curling attitude is spot on.

7. She's well and truly upped her fashion ante.

Post-Twilight, we've watched Kristen transform from a bolshy teenager into a star who plays the fashion game and (SHOCK) enjoys it. Her style trajectory has included everything from hot-off-the-catwalk Balenciaga two-pieces to sheer Zuhair Murad jumpsuits, proving that she's prepared to take a risk. Also, when you channel the main man himself, how can you go wrong?

8. The K-Stew x Chanel love-in has long been in development.

Cast your mind back to 2007 when a blonde-haired Kristen arrived at the Toronto Film Festival to promote Into The Wild and chose a sparkly Chanel dress. Since then, she's turned to the house for several high-profile occasions, including the BAFTA Awards (when she won the Rising Star Award) and the Met Ball in 2010. See the gallery above for her greatest Chanel hits.
