Keira Knightley To Play Coco Chanel In a New Short Film By Karl Lagerfeld

19 March 2013 by

Karl Lagerfeld and Brit actress Keira Knightley have never made any secret of their mutual admiration and love for one another. Further to the mini film for Coco Mademoiselle perfume which starred Knightley (face of the scent) as a leather clad ‘superhero’ whizzing around Paris on a motorcycle – Karl is directing a new Chanel short, starring Ms Knightley.

Instead of a fragrance campaign, this mini film is in honour of the 100th anniversary of the first Chanel fashion boutique, which opened in the seaside town of Deauville, France. Keira will play the heroine, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, and French actress Clotilde Hemse has been cast as Gabrielle Chanel’s aunt Adrienne.

Apparently the finished film will be screened in May at Karl’s annual summer fashion fest – the Chanel Cruise collection, which be held this time round in Singapore.  The rest of the cast will include more of his regular collaborators and models, including Stella Tennant, aspiring actress Tallulah Harlech, and hunky model Brad Kroenig with his supercute mini-me son Hudson.

We’re so excited and happy about this joyous news that we’re looking back on all our favourite krazy Karl Lagerfeld-lensed films from over the years. Hurrah! Remember these?

This trailer for the 30 minute film with Kristen McMenamy, Baptiste Gabiconi and and Freja Beha Erichson from 2011 . . .

OR this spooky tale of shop window dummies quite possibly inspired by the film, Mannequin, with Kim Cattral?

Or this enchanting tale - Keira Knightley in the Coco Madamesoiselle film

What an absolute fashion polymath he is.
