Katy Perry has shed the rainbow hair and neon eye shadow and re-emerged as an Anna Wintour approved, floral-wearing US Vogue cover girl. She's risen from the mirrored minis and candy-inspired cocktail frocks to showcase an off-the-shoulder Rodarte dress in a grassy field. As the cover line states, this is a 'fresh romantic look' for K-Pez.
As part of her Vogue-over, the singer has porcelain skin and a deep, rose red pout while her hair is left dark and tumbling, with no coloured streaks in sight. There is also a ring on her wedding finger - we'll have to wait until the issue comes out on Tuesday to work out what THAT is all about. This is a classic Annie Leibovitz cover - an A list in the grass + dreamy eyes + bare shoulders. It's a world away from her Teen Vogue cover where she matched her electric blue dress with electric blue hair.
Katy Perry's wardrobe staples are candy bullet bras and rubber bodycon - the look is Lady Gaga dipped in pick n' mix and drenched in strawberry milkshake. But recently she has grown up a tad, wearing Bottega Veneta floral tea dresses and pretty bird print frocks. Her red carpet look is equally tame recently, ditching the glitter and opting for body-skimming Vera Wang, maroon Miu Miu and flowing green Giambattista Valli. The Katy Perry hair colour wheel has also stopped spinning (for the time being at least) as she has made her mind up and stuck to a dark brunette 'do.
So let's assess the evidence... is Katy Perry getting less Katy Perry?
Before: Candyland Couture
Old school Katy Perry always dressed for the occassion, wearing film strips and popcorn dresses to promote her movie and a ballot dress in the run up to the US election. She was an explosion of colour, changing her hair as often as her shoes. She has had more than TWENTY different shades from black to purple to blue to pink.
After: Katy Perry gets a fash-over
Of course she's still a tad bonkers, she did wear a gold crown to the Met Ball. But even so, she upped her fashion credibility wearing a full Dolce & Gabbana look and walking the steps arm in arm with Stefano and Domenico. Anna Wintour was clearly impressed by what met her at the top of the steps, as she has given her the US Vogue stamp of approval.
