Over the past three seasons, stylist Katie Grand has delighted us with her pop-chic collaborations with Hogan. From heart-strewn purses to tutti-frutti hi-tops, Ms Grand has injected her personal brand of cool into the style pack’s wardrobe. This time, Katie – whose day job is editing Love Magazine and styling collections for designers including Marc Jacobs – made her first foray into clothing with a jacket (left) and added a stiletto shoe.
‘It was daunting to even think about doing clothes,’ Katie says. ‘I’m more comfortable with accessories because I worked closely on shoes at Louis Vuitton, but clothes... I just didn’t feel confident.’ So has the experience opened the door for more design work? ‘Yes, I think so. But it would have to be the right project and my collaborators will have to be really tolerant and patient with my endless corrections!’
As for how to wear her new collection, Katie says it’s all about the mix. ‘I’m quite a random dresser – I rarely wear a “look” head to toe. I’d just slot pieces from this collection into my normal wardrobe. I also love the overnight bag, it’s really light. I stole one – great for going away.’
Adding to Katie’s winning formula is her model army of friends – Joan Smalls, Edie Campbell, Georgia May Jagger and Linda Evangelista – who feature in the new campaign. ‘With Hogan, it was always important for the girls to have a big personality, so I could be nervous behind them,’ Katie laughs. ‘I think I hid pretty well behind my friends!’
