We were super excited to see Katie Holmes fashion line Holmes & Yang on the schedule last season at NYFW, as Katie and her partner Jeanne Yang hosted a presentation of their Spring Summer 2013 collection. The show had lotsa hype, mainly because the event was painted as a Victoria Beckham v Katie Holmes fashion face off.
The presentation was a short, edited collection of 14 looks, which were sophisticated basics. What else would you expect from Holmes the master of casual? She described the collection as 'very simple, with very classic lines. We use a lot of silks and leathers and suedes. This year, we're excited because we've incorporated a lot of new trims. It's basically pieces that have evolved from basics, but not too far.'
With lots of publicity and quite positive reactions for a first show at fashion week, Holmes fashion career was in the perfect position to skyrocket. But skip forward a season and Holmes will be nowhere to be seen at NYFW this February. WWD confirmed 'Katie Holmes will be sitting out next month's New York Fashion Week.' We're not exactly sure what this means for her Autumn Winter 2013 collection.
But why has she passed on NYFW this season? Perhaps she's focusing on other projects - such as her Broadway show Dead Accounts? Oh wait that got cut, so it can't be that. Her face is also splattered across beauty counters around the world as she has landed campaigns with Bobbi Brown and Alterna Haircare. So maybe she's moving from the world of fashion to beauty?
There is also a rumour that she's doing an Elle Woods and leaving Hollywood for law school, according to the National Enquirer. It would be a second shot at university for Katie, as she was accepted to study at New York’s Columbia University but she then deferred her place to star in Dawson's Creek.
Whatever she's got cooking, at least this way she gets some more time to play with her little panda Suri, carrying her toys and giving her piggybacks around town.
