The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are attending the Tusk Trust Awards tonight - their first formal engagement since the birth of the royal baby, Prince George. Although the couple were seen at the Ring O’ Fire Coastal Ultra Marathon in Anglesey last month, and Kate has been spotted popping to Waitrose (and McDonalds?!?) this is their first red carpet 'do - and boy have they made an effort.
While William is suited, booted and decked out in a bow-tie (well he is a prince after all) Kate stepped onto the red carpet in a glittering gown by one of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham, whom we happen to have chatted to about the new mum's maternity style at New York Fashion Week.
Blogger A Petite Princess revealed that there is a very similar dress in gold in Packham's No.1 range at Debenhams here. Wearing her fabulous floor length frock with matching sparkling silver shoes, we reckon Kate gives the sequinned Strictly contestants a run for their money.
The Duchess also wore Packham when she emerged from hospital carrying her new-born son in July and the designer told us of the event: 'I was in Japan on holiday at the time. It was the middle of the night when I first saw pictures of her in the dress so I was frustrated not to there and be a part of it. I was very excited and it was such a lovely moment to involved in. It was quite surreal, actually'.
But it's when Kate wants a bit of glitz that Packham has served her best. Lest we forget the emerald green stunner she chose for the 'Our Greatest Team Rises' concert last May featuring a lace bodice embellished with Swarovski crystals [above left]. And you'll remember she hosted a charity dinner at St James’s Palace last November in a silver one-shoulder gown accented by a velvet ribbon previously seen on none other than Angelina Jolie. But perhaps our favourite Middy moment EVER was when she stepped out in a bedazzling pearlescent dress at the ARK Gala [above right]. Oh, how we swooned!
This morning Kensington Palace has announced that Prince William has left the British Armed Forces so he can focus on his royal duties and expand his charity work. Oh and spend some quality time with Kate Middleton and Prince George of course. The couple will leave their home in Anglesey in the next few weeks, moving in permanently in their Kensington Palace apartment.
The statement from Kensington Palace read: 'He will continue to support the work of the Queen and the Royal Family through a programme of official engagements, both at home and overseas, with The Duchess of Cambridge.' These 'engagements' are thought to concern wildlife and conservation charities, and tonight's function honours the Tusk foundation, of which William is a patron.
So expect further royal red carpet appearances over the next 12 months - and plenty more Packham too!
