Among his many talents, Karl Lagerfeld has proved himself rather to be nifty behind the film camera. The Chanel designer has turned his hand to creating various mini-movies for the French fashion house and they're always utterly dreamy. Cara Delevingne, for one, agrees, telling us backstage at the Chanel show in September that Karl is a masterful director.
'When you're doing his films, he has the whole idea in his mind,' the bushy-browed model told us. 'I've done a few Chanel films but I think he should [direct] more. He's got such a talent for that.' And the proof is in the pudding because today, we've been got our mitts on KL's latest venture. And although we can't see the full film until the Paris-Dallas show, we DO have the trailer and a behind the scenes teaser...
Written and directed entirely by Monsieur Lagerfeld, The Return is a film made especially for Chanel's Métiers d'Arts show which will take place in Dallas on Tuesday December 10th. It follows the tres chic Once Upon a Time film, which we were treated to in May and sees Keira Knightley as a young Gabrielle Chanel. This latest installment takes Gabrielle's story to 1954 when the designer re-opened her couture house.
On the outskirts of Paris, King Karl recreated the historical décor of Coco’s salon and atelier, which was located on the rue Cambon. Naturallment, he also recruited a cast of stars and models to recount the revival of the Chanel house with Geraldine Chaplin playing Coco herself alongside the brand's faves Anna Mouglalis and Lady Amanda Harlech. But most brilliantly, Rupert Everett stars in the film too. Welcome to the Chanel Crew, Mr Everett.
This has got us in the mood for a look back at some of Karl's finest films through the years, so why not take a break and relive a series of Chanelegance...
