As Taylor Swift will testify, you don't want to get on the wrong side of Kanye West. You'lll remember back in June the rapper penned a defiant song called, err, 'I am God' about being snubbed by a fashion designer. The story goes that a few days before Paris Fashion Week last September, the rapper was invited to a top-notch catwalk show, but it was on one condition: he could not attend any other shows. Uh oh.
So what did Kanye do? He went into the studio and got pay back by writing a song called, err, I Am God. Now a hour-long interview for Radio 1 has arrived, which makes the Taylor Swift incident look sickly sweet, he reveals that the designer was Hedi Slimane.
'This song was made after Hedi Slimane didn't let me into his first Saint Laurent show. He wanted me to go but he told me I couldn't go to other shows. I was like wait a second you aren't telling editors they can't go to other shows. I'm not your boy, you can control me in some way. So I went into the studio with the producers that made the music for his show. That was my reaction.'
You can practically see the steam puffing out of his ears as he speaks to DJ Zane Lowe about his illustrious career and once again, his focus returns to the fashion world.
'I have got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down. I have reached the glass ceiling, as a creative person and a celebrity. I want to do product, I am a product person. Not just clothing, but water botte design and architecture.'
A KW water bottle? We can hardly wait. Kanye goes on to say he has brought real rap back and introduced Givenchy to the hood - or in his words, 'I have brought ten years of product that has added to humanity.' As if that wasn't proof enough of his innovating ways, the rapper-slash-designer claims he was the first to invent leather joggings.
'We were giving designs to Fendi over and over, and getting our designs knocked down! We brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi and they said no–how many mother f****** you done seen with a leather jogging pant?!'
Of course, these were seen on the runways at Saint Laurent, Balmain and Alexander Wang. He's like the Isaac Newton of fashion. But there's more. Next, Kanye comes back to Hedi Slimane...
'So when I see Hedi Slimane and it's all like this is my take on the world. Yeah, he got some nice $5000 jeans in there. There is some good **** here and there, but we culture. Rap is the new rock and roll. We are the rock stars. It's been like that for a minute, Hedi Slimane. It's been like that for a minute. We the biggest rock stars, and I'm the biggest of all of them.'
