Julianne Moore & Adele Exarchopoulos Work Leather On the Red Carpet: No-No OR Yesway?

Everyone knows that leather is a great option for daytime- where would we be without our biker jackets, leather pants and minis? But for night – especially for formal or red carpet style engagements - there’s always been a sense that leather is a little too racy and provocative – the kind of the thing that only Angelina can get away with.

However, since the Cannes Film Festival has opened we’ve already seen two great examples for how leather can be upgraded to offer megawatt glamour. Julianne Moore stepped out on to La Croisette red carpet wearing a floorsweeping graphic skirt and oxblood leather tee designed by Louis Vuitton's new creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere.

Elsewhere Cannes also saw leather on the red carpet with Adele Exarchopoulos working Louis Vuitton - indeed Mr Ghesquiere may be responsible for this new injection of hide into the world of uber occasionwear. Jennifer Connelly has also been snapped wearing a leather dress by the designer earlier in the year and there's a new band of leather loving ladies including Cameron Diaz who wore a skintight leather dress by The Row for the premiere of her film, The Other Woman to Michelle Monaghan who woked a fringed leather gown to the Met Ball earler this month. Adding a hint of edginess, but still superemely luxurious, leather may just be the hottest (in every sense) new look for the paparazzi parade.
