As Hollywood heartthrobs go, Johnny Depp is up there with the best of them. But it now looks like the Pirates Of The Carribean star has had enough of life in the fast lane and is considering taking a step back from the limelight.
It's been a rocky year for the 50-year-old who split up from his long-term partner and mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis, last summer. And his current box office contender, The Lone Ranger, hasn't been met with much enthusiasm from critics or audiences alike.
In a recent interview to promote the film, he said, "Are there quieter things I wouldn't mind doing? Yes, I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't say I am dropping out any second but I would say it's not too far away." Say it isn't so!
We wonder what quieter things he'll be getting up to when he does step down from the silver screen? We know he's a fan of wine and music - perhaps it'll be a sabbatical in the South of France with his guitar next? Oh, what we would do to get an invite on that holiday…
Don't despair though, there'll still be plenty more opportunities to oogle over that dazzling face at your local multiplex - he's still tied up with the multi-million dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Plus it must be about time for another Tim Burton / Helena Bonham Carter collab, right? And rumours have been flying round about an Alice In Wonderland 2.
But before JD got swept away by contracts and franchises and big blockbusters, there was a time when he starred in some way cooler indy-flicks, making a name for himself as the essential '90s antithesis to the squeaky clean Hollywood stars. Let's take a trip down memory lane with Depp's iconic role as Edward Scissorhands in the clip below and remember his finest fashion moments in the gallery above. We heart you, Johnny.
Forget Romeo and Juliet, Winona and Johnny were the ultimate star-crossed lovers
