John Galliano will not design for Oscar de la Renta, despite working at the fashion house in a 'residency' capacity last year.

John headed to rehab in 2011 after making anti-semitic remarks while drunk at a bar in Paris. He was dismissed from the role he had held for five years at Christian Dior and retreated from public life, with the exception of working on Kate Moss's wedding dress.

In January 2013 it was revealed John's friend Oscar de la Renta had invitied him to work for three weeks as part of a 'residency' at the atelier. The designer helped out with the label's praised Fall 2013 collection.

'John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent,' said Oscar at the time. 'He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.'

Oscar de la Renta is currently looking for a new creative director, but despite John's time at the brand being a success, the New York Post is reporting that he will not be taking on the role.

'It is categorically not happening,' a source told he newspaper. 'The team at Oscar were not willing to put up the money to pay for the design team John needed, such as the cutters and other specialist support staff for his atelier.'

John will stay in London to mentor students at Central Saint Martins art college and remains good friends with Oscar.
