Mr Skinny Jeans, Jeff Rudes, Leaves J Brand: We Look At His Starry Denim Legacy

Today's big fashion news is that Mr skinny jean Jeff Rudes is leaving J Brand. The CEO founded the label back in 2004 and brought the skinny jean to the masses. Yep the J stands for Jeff.

It its thought that his entrepreneurial spirit is the reason for his departure. “After nine extraordinary years building J Brand, it’s time for me to move on and create what’s next,” Rudes said of his exit. He will temporarily be succeeded by Andrew Rosen, the CEO of Theory and Helmut Lang.

The CEO has been credited with spear-heading the skinny jean phenomenon. But they don't just do no frills denim, as the Houlihan Cargo Pant reached cult status selling more than 300,000 pairs. In fact each of their cuts is a winner, from the Love Story to the 811.

Denim is in Rudes' DNA as he started working in jeans back in the 70's, when he launched the Paris 2000 jeans. He also launched Area Code and A. Gold E, as well as being a denim consultant for Abercrombie & Fitch. Jeff Rudes has said of the thinking behind J Brand: "Our strategy from the beginning was to create the perfect fitting jean which was classic, sophisticated and timeless. Our intention was to make a women look and feel beautiful in her jeans. It’s about her outfit and not about the jean. We are known for our dark, clean and minimalist look which is now part of our DNA."

"J Brand changed the face of denim, offering women of all shapes and sizes that elusive 'perfect fit'. The luxe appeal of the ultra soft cotton and high end finishes transformed something that was seen as a democratic staple into a high fashion, exclusive garment. The idea of a door policy refusing jeans had become all but extinct – thanks mostly to J Brand and its cohorts – simply because jeans have been elevated beyond casual wear. Jeff came up with the concept for J Brand under a tree in LA's Franklin Canyon Park and staked everything he owned on building the brand he believed in. It has been a massive success thanks to his vision and passion for denim and J Brand lovers – from Kate Middleton to Anna Wintour - the world around will certainly mourn his departure."

It worked. J Brands are a staple in many an A List wardrobe. If you name any celebrity, chances are they've been spotted in a pair of J Brands. Rihanna, Nicole Richie, Daisy Lowe and Kate Moss are all loyal wearers.
