J. Crew Boss Jenna Lyons Talks About Her 289 Pairs Of Shoes: VIDEO

13 March 2013 by

J. Crew's President Jenna Lyons is what we could call a shoe person - she would give Ms Carrie Bradshaw some serious stiletto competition as she reveals she has 289 pairs of shoes in a J. Crew video. In the vid Jenna talks through the design process of making a pair of J. Crew shoes and what she looks for in a stiletto.

So what do we learn about her shoe collection? Jenna reckons leopard is a neutral, she has 289 pairs (many she has never actually worn, but just likes to look at), she thinks shoes are like fairies and 'has been known to frighten a dog' with her traffic stopping stilettos.

Ever wanted to know the design process of a pair of heels? Jenna reveals: 'I think inspiration comes from everywhere it can be old movies, something you feel like you're missing in your closet. Sometimes that design inspiration is a little bit like a river, picking things up along the way. Sometimes what happens is the shoes come in and we call them ugly dollies when they don't work out and then sometimes they are beautiful shiny ponies.'

The J. Crew 'shiny ponies' are the perfect pick me up - we're lusting after the colour contrast courts and the blue floral pumps with the sequin block heel. J. Crew have been making their shoes in Italy since Jenna joined the company 22 years ago and she said 'I feel like half the people in the little town where our shoe factory is work in the factory.'

To Jenna shoes are a window to the soul as she says 'a 5 inch stiletto sends a very different message than a beat up pair of oxfords. There is a sense of sparkle in a shoe, and i don't meen sparkle like sequins, I mean that little extra. Shoes are like fairies - that little magical piece that finishes everything.' Yep, Jenna is the definition of a shoe person.

Find out about Jenna's impressive shoe collection in the video below. Now will you start calling your shoes 'shiny ponies' and 'ugly dollies'?
