Aintree Ladies Day: The Fashion Parade Continues!

04 April 2014 by

Today it's ladies day at Aintree! It may not be all that warm but that doesn't stop the girls in Liverpool from dressing like they're in Marbella. Goosebumps are an extra accessory at these races. Thigh high slits, extensions, sequins, bedazzled platforms and feathered fascinators are the Aintree uniform. Oh and a lorra lorra pink. The Liverpool girls slipped into bubble-gum chiffon and applied many, many layers of fake tan to watch the races. This year the hats most definitely took center stage, bold and bright creations teetering precariously on the coiffed-to-perfection heads of many an Aintree lady. There was even one made out of mini Cheddars - yes, the crackers; yes, really.

Admit it, you can't look at the pictures from Aintree Races without hearing that Boots Christmas ad soundtrack Here Come The Girls. According to The Telegraph, thousands of tickets have been left unsold with experts suggesting that regular racegoers were being put off the event by the “lax” dress code. Yikes! Relaaax guys, it's just a bit of fun. Many still came out in droves, though, with Coleen Rooney - the Queen of the Aintree fashionistas leading the pack in a bright pink pencil skirt and matching crop top. What Alexa Chung is to Glastonbury, and Kate Bosworth is to Coachella, Rooney is to Aintree. A style leader who probably spends months planning her outfits for this festival of fashion, there's no doubt that every woman there is keener to see Coleen than they are to see any horses (horses? What horses?).

We've rounded up some of the *insert descriptive word here* looks in the gallery above...
