It's Ladies Day! Rate The Coolest Looks (We Mean Literally) From The Races At Aintree

05 April 2013 by

Today it's ladies day at Aintree! It might be frosty, but that doesn't stop the girls in Liverpool from dressing like they're in Marbella. Goosebumps are an extra accessory at these races, as at the opening day of the Grand National yesterday there wasn't a coat in sight. Yep this is the one event where looking 'cool' is taken literally.

Thigh high slits, extensions, sequins, bedazzled platforms and feathered fascinators are the Aintree uniform. Oh and a lorra lorra pink. The Liverpool girls slipped into bubble-gum chiffon and applied many, many layers of fake tan to watch the races.

The temperatures are icy today in Liverpool with highs of 8°C, but there is set to be a little bit of sun at 1pm and then at 5pm so prepare to see a whole lorra those Liverpool tans. Speaking of the orange stuff, shops in Liverpool have reportedly sold 3,500 pints of fake tan. False eyelashes are also up 150 per cent in preparation for the races.

Harvey Nichols is also on hand to help glam-ify the girls, with their Beauty Bazaar at Aintree Grand National. Harvey Nics has said that they are expecting to sell 38,700 pairs of heels and 10,000 clutches for the races. Now a stat we'd really like to see is the number of crystals there are at Ladies Day. Oh and how many racegoers end up with post-Aintree flu.

The Saturdays performed at the event yesterday, and nailed the 'Pool mind-set as they were still dressed like they were strolling around Beverly Hills in orange minis, with mahogany tans and bare arms. Frankie even went for shorts in the snow, as she wore a teeny tiny black playsuit.

This is one of our favourite galleries of the year - perhaps even more exciting than the Oscars best dressed. Keep checking the gallery above to see all the latest looks from Aintree. *WARNING there will be a lot of pink and orange.
