Is This Year's Kardashian Kristmas Kard By David LaChapelle The Most Bonkers Yet?

02 December 2013 by

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun. How do we know? Not because we've opened our advent calendars or baked a batch of mince pies, but because a certain reality TV family have released their annual Kardashian Kristmas Kard. Every year the gang get together in varying numbers to create a festive tableau, which usually involves ball gowns, black tie and adorable baby Kardashians swaddled in cloth or wearing mini versions of their parents' ensembles.

This year however, the Kardashians have taken a rather different approach thanks to a collaboration with renowned fashion photographer David LaChapelle. The photo was taken on a casino set, which was scattered with mannequin parts and tabloid covers featuring the faces of the family strewn all over the floor. Kim poses next to a dollar sign in an Yves Saint Laurent dress showing off her ample cleavage while Kris Jenner wears a Cleopatra headdress.

Bizarrely Bruce, who announced his split from Kris earlier this year is trapped in a glass tube with his hand pressing up against the sides as he unveils his new long hair. Apart from Kourtney's son Mason, he is the only Kardashian male to appear in this year's card as Rob Kardashian didn't feel up to it and Scott Disick, Lamar Odom, and Kanye West all declined. Kim didn't include Nori in the shoot, but both of Kourtney's children made an appearance despite being asked by LaChapelle to leave them out. She said, "I really think my kids should be part of it. I know he is an artist but it’s still our family Christmas card. They will be in it."

The card was revealed to coincide with the Kardashian Christmas special, which aired yesterday. It is a major change from the 2012 card where all the family wore white outfits and smiled and laughed under a stream of confetti. Last year's card also included a cameo by Kim's kitty Mercy, a gift from Kanye, who sadly died shortly after the photo was taken. The year before the family created their first 3D card when they embraced a black tie theme. Some of our favourites offer a real blast from the past, as the Kardashians have been making Kristmas Kards long before they were famous.
