Is Lollapalooza Festival Cooler Than Coachella? We Evaluate The Stylish Evidence

09 August 2013 by

Is Lollapalooza cooler than Coachella? We only ask because the Midwest festival appears to be attracting a very fine breed of not-yet-ridiculously-famous girls – the kind we want to keep a secret. Of course, no major music event could instantly compete with the catwalk created by Indio's dusty desert without a few years of growth; but with an understated vibe, inner-city Grant Park location in Chicago and very good line-up, ‘Palooza looks like it could rival the big'un.

The first reason why Lollapalooza 2013 has come to our attention – other than the fantastic nomenclature – is that our new favourite besties were in attendance. The Dolls’ very-cool violinist Catilin (aka Margot) Moe and DJ Mia Moretti. The pair arranged some pretty impressive festi-looks for the three day event; we were thankful to see not an inch of denim cut-off, but instead double gingham, lingerie slip-dresses (SO A/W’13, right?) and Crayola colour-blocked lipstick.

Lianne La Havas, Lana Del Rey, Angel Haze and Ellie Goulding are just four of the other girls spotted performing. Admittedly this is not quite of your average Coachella crew calibre – Rosie Huntington Whitely/Alexa Chung/insert other majorly style-stalked person here – but could that make Lolla the rebellious, underdog sibling to a big sis who can’t help showing off?

The climate and location are also key factors in Lolla's favour. While you have to sweat it out in the day during Coachella, only to arrive later on in the evening, the cooler weather in Chicago enables all-day-all-night partying. To nab a swanky pad or luxe-caravan spot in the Cali desert, you’ll need to book about a zillion years in advance, and even then you’ll need to arrange transport to and from the site. Chicago makes it easy: a stroll to the park and an abundance of hotels to choose from.

With all of the above considered, there’s certainly a case for Lollapalooza's increasing cred, but until actually manage to get there we couldn’t possibly make a final decision. Wink wink, nudge nudge…. Anyone got a spare ticket for next year?
