Is Lena Dunham's Fash-Over The Reason Why Anna Wintour Wants Her To Cover US Vogue?

When Radar Online reported yesterday that Lena Dunham was being courted to cover US Vogue the Internet went wild about the idea that a star who doesn't conform to the size zero stereotype had captured Anna Wintour's attention. Apparently Wintour is keen to get Dunham on board and reach out her cool twenty-something fanbase who she would love to transform into Vogue readers and establish a new generation of subscribers.

A source told Radar, “Anna is trying to seduce Lena into bringing her next-generation audience into the Vogue brand. And she’s willing to violate a lot of Vogue traditions to do it, including putting her on the cover even though she doesn’t really conform to the body type that Vogue has featured for most of its history.”

Not only has Vogue put the feelers out to Lena, but Wintour is also preparing to host an intimate dinner in the 27-year-old 'Girls' creator's honour. The source added, “This dinner is a first step for Anna to see if Lena will play ball. But Anna’s perspective is that they need each other.”

We wonder if this is the case, considering Dunham has fared pretty well on her own so far. She's already got a hit HBO series and film under her belt (writing, acting and directing credits) and she's currently working on the screen adaptation of 'All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go', which is the memoir of Bergdorf Goodman personal shopper Betty Halbreich. That's not to mention the fact that she's earned her stripes as a fashion star in her own right.

Perhaps rather than using her to leverage more customers, Wintour is simply impressed with Dunham's red carpet transformation. As well as accompanying designer Erdem to the Met Gala 2013 in one of his own designs, Lena has stepped out in the likes of Prada, Saint Laurent and Valentino and also made her Paris Fashion Week debut this season, attending the Miu Miu Spring Summer 2014 presentation alongside Michelle Dockery and Dianna Agron.
