Derek Blasberg is a familiar face on the international fashion scene, and while he's not a household name in the UK (yet) his friends certainly are. On Monday the Editor at Large of Harper’s Bazaar US and V magazine celebrated his birthday with a who's who of superstars, stylists and catwalk models including Nicole Richie, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, Poppy Delevingne and even renowned photographer Mario Testino. To us, this beautiful selection of attendees reads like the VIP guest list for the Met Gala, but Mr Blasberg is so familiar with fashion folk that his Instagram account is a better source of celeb spotting than the front row at Paris Fashion Week.

In London, designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, who are both friends of Blasberg's incidentally, always appear surrounded by stylish girls from Alexa Chung to Agyness Deyn, and in America their equivalent is Derek. He's funny, impeccably dressed, a sharp writer and, as we found out when we interviewed him at London Fashion Week in February, oh-so-charming, so it's no wonder that the Fash Pack are lining up to befriend him.

As well as writing the 2010 book 'Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady', the industry insider chronicles his everyday fashion adventures at MrBlasberg.com. Despite living in New York, he told Grazia Daily, 'In fashion, you meet a lot of creative, amazing types and a lot of them are actually from London. Really it’s this town that creates the best folks if I may say so.' One of his favourite UK ladies is Alexa Chung, whom he has previously spent a holiday with in the Bahamas. He's also welcomed Alexa's pals into his social circle including Poppy Delevingne, Pixie Geldof and Cara Delevingne, as well as fellow Brit girls Emma Watson and Rita Ora.
