Rihanna has become the queen of the Instagram photoshoot lately. First off she took us on safaRIH in South Africa where she was visiting as part of her Diamonds World Tour and then we took a little detour to an aquarium where she had a fashion battle with a penguin. The images are all taken by photography duo Steven Gomillion and Dennis Leupold who appear to be the singer's official photographers as she jets around the world performing sell out arena shows.
However, RiRi's latest attempts to create a fashion shoot in an exotic location have sparked somewhat of a backlash as the pop star shared photos of herself on Instagram posing in front of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. While the 25-year-old did remain fully clothed as she visited the place of worship, even covering up her hair to comply with the mosque's guidelines, her seductive red lippy and playful poses didn't please everybody on the social site.
Some fans praised the singer for her decision to wear a hijab with calibudkay saying, 'You. Look. Amazing. Bless you for your respect', but others accused her of turning a religious garment into a fashion accessory.
A representative for the mosque issued the following statement after Rihanna was reportedly asked to leave: “The Centre strives to ensure that visitors enter the mosque in a decent fashion, and refrain from behaving in any way that is inconsistent with the sanctity of this religious place. Here, the Centre refers to a recent incident, involving a singer who came for a private visit to the mosque, at a gate that is not reserved for visitors, without prior coordination with the Centre’s management and without identifying herself. She was directed by visitor services to proceed to the visitors’ main gate and take the guided tour, according to procedure. She left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Centre’s management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration.”
On stage in Abu Dhabi RiRi has been sticking to a modest dress code, swapping her Givenchy hotpants for an all-white ensemble and desert cap.
