Last night saw the first ever Amy Winehouse Foundation Dinner held at the beautiful Dorchester hotel and what an evening it was. Attended by Amy’s close friends and family it was an opportunity to not only celebrate her life but to showcase the fantastic work the charity has been doing to help disadvantaged young people and those whose lives have been affected by alcohol and drug abuse.
Speaking fondly of his daughter Mitch Winehouse said, ‘She was a wonderful normal girl, obviously she had her problems, but she was a wonderful girl. All we’re doing is carrying on the legacy that Amy left us as she was so charitable and so giving.’
Amy’s close friend and former The Voice star Tyler James performed after a moving tribute from her DJ pal Mark Ronson who described his close friend as having been like, ‘A den mother,’ explaining, ‘She had all these cubs around her and she loved them and they loved her very much, I met a lot of great people through Amy.’
Putting last weekend’s X Factor defeat behind her Ella Henderson also performed at the event which was sponsored by Raffles members club, after being personally invited by Mitch Winehouse. After a haunting rendition of Amy’s classic ‘Love is a Losing Game’ we caught up with the 16-year-old who said, ‘It was a privilege to be here tonight and just to celebrate and remember someone who was so great, being invited by Mitch was just an amazing feeling for me.’
As the evening wore on guests were invited to bid on a number of different items including a guitar signed by Ronnie Wood. It was a wonderful soiree and a great way to remember Amy and all the people she touched through her music.
