The fash-pack went wild in the aisles at Chanel's spectacular show this week, tempted by delights not only on the catwalk but also displayed in the supermarket set. Although guests weren't strictly allowed to take any of the chic products - there was everything from 'Coco' chocolate to double-C'd hammers - that didn't stop editors and A-listers grabbing the goods. There was a genuine fist fight over the Mademoiselle doormats and many ladies were spotted sucking on Chanel sweets as they left the Grand Palais.
One lady who was eager to give the products a try was Inès de La Fressange. The French fancy has long been part of Karl's crew and has graced many a catwalk in her modelling days, so surely she'd be given free rein of the fabulous supermarché? 'I want the iron storage boxes with red and white crosses on,' she told Grazia Daily when we met her at the fromage stall. 'I don't know what they're meant to be for, but I would find things to put in them. They are absolutely gorgeous.'
In fact, Inès is convinced all supermarket packaging should be so chic. 'Why don’t they do beautiful things like this? It’s easy and it would transform our lives into something much more fun.' Over to you, Tescos. Although, perhaps this is what Monsieur Lagerfeld thinks the real world is actually like? 'Yes, maybe Karl is not that used to going to supermarkets!' laughs Inès.

Speaking of Karl, the fashion star reveals that the designer is all about having fun. 'He works very seriously, but he's always the one to have fun and make jokes,' Inès tells us. 'He has so much imagination, it’s impossible to spend a day with Karl and not giggle like teenagers. People don’t expect that from him because you see him with white hair and black glasses, but he really likes jokes - and even stupid jokes. He doesn’t want to get bored and he doesn’t want to be boring.' Mission accomplished!
Inès says that it is this same fun-loving appeal that makes Cara Delevingne so endearing - and such a perfect part of Karl's masterplan. 'She has personality and she’s not afraid to make funny faces,' says the 56-year-old. 'Her elegance is in not being stiff and boring. My daughter is 14 and she just loves Cara. All the young girls want to look like her because she is the way people should be today; full of lightness and no pretention.' We couldn't agree more.

Leigh Lezark was another guest eager to do some looting. 'People are tearing the place apart,' the model-slash-DJ giggled as she snuck a bag of bon bons under her blouse. As for the collection itself, Leigh agrees that Karl can do no wrong. 'I loved the high top trainers, which carried over from the couture show and they had headphones for the first time which, being a DJ, is the coolest thing ever.' Karl certainly has his finger on the pulse, as evidenced by a pop-tastic soundtrack of Rihanna and Lady Gaga. 'I’ve worked with him for several years and he has an endless amount of knowledge of music, of art, of fashion,' says Leigh. 'He’s so fun and down to earth so everybody gets treated the same.'
