Suki Waterhouse won the award for the most fabric at the Met Ball this year thanks to her dusty pink ruffled Burberry gown with a never-ending train. She had an elegant red lip, her hair swept back into a chignon and huge rocks in her ears, so one would assume that she had a satin slipper hidden under all those layers. Wrong. Turns out she skipped the Choos and wore a pair of chunky black combat boots that she has owned since she was 16.
This unlikely choice of footwear wasn't to be kind to her feet or because they are a good luck charm - as she said in an interview with The Cut it was 'just for height.' So how did Suki pick her dress? She revealed:
'I wanted pink in it. I love that pale pink, so I wanted a little bit of that in it. And then I left it up to them, and then didn’t really see it until three days before. It’s kind of scary actually. And then I saw it, and I remember walking in and seeing it and we were just all like, Ahhh! They just did such an amazing job. It’s one of those things where you don’t really know what it’s going to be like, and then it’s f****** amazing. So high-five, Burberry.'
We've often wondered what it's really like to attend the Met Ball - especially after Gwyneth Paltrow called it dullsville last year. Just to remind you, Gwyn said: 'It's so hot, and so crowded, and everyone's pushing you. This year it was really intense. It wasn't fun!' But Suki had a more pleasant experience, as she told The Cut: '[It was] actually very relaxed. Not how you’d expect. I felt like I was at a very special occasion. Getting ready I felt like it was my wedding a tiny bit.'
She also didn't find the red carpet too stressful, as she explained: 'I got there so early. I was one of the first to arrive. So it was empty. I want to do that if I ever do it again. Go early.' Suki added to WWD: 'Everything’s been really easy once you know what you’re doing and you’ve got your dress and your s--t sorted out. If you’ve got your s--t together, you’re fine.'
The model was less chatty on the subject of her Met Ball date, her Hollywood boyfriend Bradley Cooper who was a co-chair at the Gala. When she was asked by WWD if Bradley felt at home with all of those fashionistas she said these five words: 'You’d have to ask him.' Oh how we wish we could talk to Mr Cooper about what it was like to work with Anna Wintour.
