You might remember that at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival remember that Carine Roitfeld put on the first ever fashion show at the amFAR gala and raised a cool $11 million. So it'll come as no surprise that the Parisian style genius is doing it all again, this time with the help of a certain super model, Naomi Campbell.
Last year's show featured all-black pieces modelled by the world's top models, but now she's going one step further and adding some colour to the proceedings by staging a 'gold' tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. 'I picked the gold theme because gold is extraordinary," Roitfeld told WWD. 'Since it is the 20th year of this event, I thought people should walk away with an incredible memory. For me, this is really a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. When you think of her in 'Cleopatra,' you have this very powerful image of gold and beauty.'
Style twins? Elizabeth Taylor and Carine Roitfeld
The runway at this year's Cannes AmFAR gala benefiting Cinema Against AIDS, is set to be bigger than ever as it will feature 40 gold-tastic creations made especially for the event by every designer you could think of. Christian Dior, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Burberry and Prada are just some of the designers who have been called to action by Ms Carine Roitfeld.
It comes as no surprise that Carine is a fan of Liz Taylor considering the Hollywood actress, who died in 2011, was the ultimate bling queen. As well as being drenched in diamonds, her wardrobe was non-stop glam, packed with leopard print and fur stoles that wouldn't look out of place in Carine's impeccable wardrobe. Carine's first editorial after leaving Vogue Paris was also dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor, as she styled a 72 page homage to the late Hollywood icon making up a quarter of the magazine. You could call her a super fan.
Elizabeth Taylor at the Cannes Film Festival, 1957
Plus Elizabeth Taylor represents Old Hollywood glamour at the Cannes Film festival, as she visited the festival in the 50s dripping in diamonds. But she is also the obvious choice for an amFar tribute gala, as she founded the amFAR foundation in 1985 with Dr Mathilde Krim, bringing the issue of HIV/AIDS into the spotlight.
Something tells us Carine's Cannes tribute to Elizabeth Taylor will go down a little better than Liz and Dick - you know, the panned film with Lindsay Lohan in a wig and leopard print.
