Hayden Panettiere made her fashion fantasy come true by wearing Tom Ford [Getty]
Spare a thought for Hayden Panettiere. The Nashville star found her dream dress, was desperate to wear it and saved up the pennies. So far, so normal, right? Apparently not because now she's facing backlash for daring to BUY then WEAR it to the Golden Globes. Eh?
Yes, while the rest of Hollywood borrowed a gown for the night, Hayden - quelle horreur - purchased her monochrome Tom Ford dress off-the-rack. The Texan designer only dresses one star per awards show (Naomi Watts was the lucky lady this year) so she took the matter into her own hands. Admittedly, the dress cost an eye-watering $10,000, but considering Hayden has a net worth of approximately $10 million, it's unlikely to break the bank.

'It's the first time I've ever worn [Tom Ford], because I've been begging,' the blonde actress told E! News. 'I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him.' Grazia Daily deeply sympathises with her excitement. If we had that kind of cash, we'd want to make our fashion fantasies come true too. And what a bold move to buck with convention! Especially considering the dress is near-identical to the Tom Ford frock Julianne Moore wore at the very same ceremony a year before.
However, journalist Jim Shi was not so supportive and voiced his disapproval on Twitter...
But all's well that ends well and it's Hayden who's had the last laugh. Not only did she look mighty fine in the frock, but Tom Ford himself has given his seal of approval. The designer sent a bouquet of white roses to the star along with a message THANKING HER for the support. 'Dear Hayden, You looked beautiful last night. Thank you for your kind words. Much love, Tom' read the card. What a gent!

So what say you? Was it a major fashion faux pas for Hayden to buy the Tom Ford frock and bring not one but two of the designer's creations to the Golden Globes?
