Happy 8th Birthday, Twitter! Celebrate With A Look Back At The Stars' First Tweets

21 March 2014 by

Can you believe it's been EIGHT years since Twitter came into our lives? Yes, the world's first ever tweet was sent on May 1st 2006 by company founder Jack Dorsey. Fast forward to 2014 and Katy Perry is the most popular user on the social networking site with a whooping 51.3 million followers. Phewf.

In celebration of their birthday this year, Twitter has just set up a nifty tool for us tweeters to see our first ever foray into the Twittersphere - and have a nosey at everyone else's too. Discover.twitter.com is crazily addictive and we've had a whale of a time looking back at the openers from our favourite celebrity types.

Over four years after Twitter first launched, Victoria Beckham got involved and her opening tweet was about the airport being her runway, natch. Meanwhile Cara Delevingne signed up in June 2011, saying she'd succumbed and 'sold her soul'.

As for Lady Gaga, who now has 41.1 million followers, her first tweet was, 'op rehearsing for my video just dance and am now at wmc to perform at the Armani and nervous records party. But I am no nervous record!'. Ah yes, Just Dance. How far we've come, eh?
