Happy 38th birthday Angelina Jolie! The birthday girl wowed not once but twice on the red carpet this week in her first public appearance since bravely speaking out about undergoing a double mastectomy and is currently in Paris with her husband-to-be, Brad Pitt. But how did the star become the humanity-saving humanitarian and slinky Saint Laurent wearer that she is today? To celebrate her big day, here's our ode to Angie, rounding up her most memorable moments so far...
1982 - Angelina's first film role
Her love for the silver screen began way back when she was an adorable seven-year-old and bagged a small part in Lookin' to Get Out.
1986 - Angie's first trip to the Oscars
N'aww! Angelina went to the Oscar Awards with daddy Jon Voight when she was just 11 years old and opted to wear white lace with no right leg in sight.
1994 - The modelling years
At 19 years old, the sultry seductress was born. This saucy shot comes from one of her first ever modelling shoots.
1996 - Mariage number one
Angelina was married to Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 after meeting on the set of Hackers. She famously walked up the aisle in skintight rubber trousers with Jonny’s name written across her white T shirt in her own blood.
1999 - Her role in Girl, Interrupted wowed the world
Although the film was hoped to be Winona Ryder's comeback, it instead marked Angelina's final breakthrough in Hollywood.
2000 - She wore Billy Bob Thornton's blood around her neck
Billy Bob was the next lucky man to become Mr Jolie. They tied the knot in 2000 and got matching tattoos. Oh, and exchanged vials of each other’s blood.
2000 - She won her first Oscar Award
Angelina scored an Oscar in 2000 for Girl Interrupted before, err, smooching her brother. That's certainly one way of celebrating!
2001 - Hello Lara Croft!
Who better to play the curvilious subject of all male sexual fantasies than our Ange? We loved her fierce Tomb Raiding ways and the role made her an international superstar.
2001 - Angelina, the humanitarian
In February 2001, Angelina went on her first field visit to Sierra Leone and Tanzania and later that year became a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador at UNHCR headquarters in Geneva. Since then she has visited Libya during the revolution, Afghanistan, Chad and Darfur to name a few. She was subsequently presented with a gold pin in recognation for her serving as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for a decade.
2002 - Introducing Mr Maddox
Angelina adopted her first son, Maddox, from Cambodia. He was the main man in her life after she divorced Billy Bob, but the pair wouldn't be alone for long...
2005 - Two words: Brad. Pitt.
Uh oh. The two hottest people in Hollywood. On set. Playing a fiesty married couple, oozing with sexual tension. We all know what happened next...
2006 - Team Brangelina!
Before you can say 'rainbow family', a blooming Angie with a Shiloh-shaped bun in the oven appeared. It was the most anticipated baby since Jesus Christ, apparently (Kimye who?!). But surely it's unfair for one person to hog all those superhuman genes? Indeed, the star soon popped out that adorable duo, Vivienne and Knox in 2008, as well as adding Ethopian Zahara and Vietnamese Pax to the mix. Please can you adopt us next?
2007 - Angelina turned director
La Jolie made her directorial debut with the documentary A Place in Time, which captures daily life in 27 locations around the world during a single week. The film was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and was intended for distribution to high schools through the National Education Association.
2009 - She topped Time's Celebrity 100
Angelina bagged the number one spot on the magazine's ranking of the world's most powerful celebrities. 'Thanks to the release of several blockbuster movies and an endless sea of media buzz, Jolie has dethroned Oprah Winfrey to top this year's Celebrity 100 list,' Time trilled.
2011- Her film In the Land of Blood and Honey received a Golden Globe nomination
Her directorial feature debut told a love story between a Serb soldier and a Bosniak prisoner of war, set during the 1992–95 Bosnian War. Jolie made the film to rekindle attention for the survivors of a war that took place in recent history and as well as scripting the film, she co-produced it too. It also for Best Foreign Language Film.
2012 - Her right leg sparked a phenomenon
The 2012 Academy Awards will go down in history as the night Angelina flashed her right leg - and with that, her limb went viral.
2013 - Angelina spoke out about her double mastectomy
Angelina Jolie revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy in a bid to prevent contracting cancer – the disease that killed her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, aged just 56. She discovered she was a carrier of the “faulty” BRCA1 gene, which meant she had a 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. She made her first public appearance after her brave announcement in slinky black Saint Laurent arm in arm with Brad Pitt at the premiere of World War Z. What a woman!
