We can't say we're surprised by this news, in fact, we're more confused that it hasn't happened already. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and designer Stella McCartney have unveiled their first fashion collaboration, available exclusively on Paltrow's style, food and lifestyle website Goop. The Stella McCartney x Goop collection launched today and is the latest in a series of fashion initiatives that Gwyneth has undertaken.
This is the first time that the star has worked with her best friend Stella however, and it comes after Goop collaborations with the likes of Cynthia Rowley, Rag & Bone, Warby Parker and Alexandra von Furstenberg. Why wait so long? Well it turns out that the pals are both insistent on finding the right project with Gwyneth telling WWD, “Stella and I keep our [collaborations] to a minimum,” and Stella adding “For me, it’s trying to find the ones that fit”.
Surely this is the perfect fit, as Gwyneth forms part of Stella's gang of female muses, which also includes Cameron Diaz, Naomi Watts and Kate Moss whom she dresses for red carpet events. McCartney says of her glamorous friend, “I have quite a lot of admiration for her at so many levels and that’s a big part of how I design. Her spirit and inner beauty as well as outer beauty are a big inspiration for me. I draw from that every day from all my friends.”
The collection itself is made up of investment pieces with Stella explaining: “We sat down and talked about it a lot and it was very considered. The outcome is designs that are very timeless. In order to create pieces that are effortless, it’s very considered. Gwyneth was a huge part of that. This is a big reflection of her life." Gwyneth confirmed: “I tend to go for more classic pieces. I wanted to make things that you’d leave to your daughter."
Although the actress is seeking to take her business in an e-commerce direction, she doesn't consider herself a designer: “I think of myself as a woman who is a lover of beautiful things. I’m very specific about my taste. The role I want in a partnership is curating a collection as opposed to taking a designer point of view. I can tweak a blazer and make it the perfect blazer. It’s being able to fulfill what my ideal things ought to be.”
Readers, we think this could be the beginning of a beautiful (working) friendship!
