Like the modern fashion maverick he is, Jeremy Scott took to his instagram account to release the first look at his debut Moschino line. The reaction so far to his greatly anticipated collection for the legendary Italian fashion label has been phenomenal and, well, why wouldn’t it be? Jeremy’s succeeded in taking the ladylike kitsch, gloss, kook and fun of the brand’s existing DNA and managed to inject it with his very own interpretation of the cult-followed streetwear he’s so well known for. It’s a rounded and confident Pre Fall 2014 range – one that’s bound to be a hit on the streets.
So how does the lady-street dichotomy work? It can translate at times into relatively demure pieces like a black shift dress swamped in gold chains and the signature MOSCHINO gold letters as two-for necklace/neckline…. But it also struts into wackier territories, like the quilted leather jacket that’s actually a bag. Those have been going down a storm online – creating perhaps the first ‘Marmite’ love-it-or-hate-it debate of this mid-season. For the record, we really like a LOL-cessory.
We have many favourites already: those snap-back MOSCHINO caps could top off a lazy jeans-tee outfit like nothing else, the oversized logo-emblazoned t-shirt dress would look achingly hip on someone like, say, M.I.A. A cow-print backpack has street-snapped blogger written all over it, while that red blown-up bomber jacket-cum-dress will be argued over by editors and cool kids alike.
