We're all agreed that Mondays pretty much suck, but this week ours was brightened up with the arrival of Cath Kidston at Grazia HQ. As well as dishing out a selection of delectable breakfast treats from pain au raisin to fresh fruit, the team behind the British brand showed up armed with a selection of gorgeous Cath Kidston interior and stationery products to give our well-worn office a little lift. If you have an aversion to florals look away now!
Unlike the time that our university flatmates “hilariously” covered our bedroom in tin foil, we were pleased as punch with our CK makeover. Chairs were accessorised with the addition of spotty cushions, really important documents were organised in flowery folders, desks were equipped with Cath Kidston notepads, pens, rubbers and sharpeners - just like the first day of school except no one was teased for having a naff pencil case.
And it wasn't just the office that received the CK treatment. Our kitchen, dining area and bathroom were all adorned with Kidston merchandise including plates, cutlery, toiletries, hanging pictures and lampshades. Our fairy godmothers of interior style even went so far as to repaint a dark blue wall a lighter shade of pale blue to complement the new yellow table and wooden dining chairs. Cath Kidston, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year also announced yesterday that its annual sales had reached £100m for the first time. Once described by former interior designer and founder Kidston as a "glorified junk shop", the brand is renowned for producing everyday products featuring whimsical and nostalgic prints. As well as being a big hit in the UK, it now has a global following in China, Spain, Thailand and South Korea too.
