Whilst a burst sewage pipe might have flooded the red carpet, the dresses the Hollywood A-listers dragged over it were anything but rubbish. In the awards ceremony itself, there were wins for Dallas Buyers Club and American Hustle while 12 Years A Slave picked up the gong for Best Film, but which of the menswear outfits were equally prize-worthy?
1. Matthew McConaughey
MM may have won for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, but hisgreen velvet Dolce & Gabbana blazer was a bit too Hugh Heffner for our liking. Much more understated was Bradley Cooper, whose Tom Ford tux was a perfect example of how to do elegance on the red carpet, Michael Fassbender looked good too, and perfectly accentuated his suit with a classic white pocket square.
2. Jared Leto
Mr Leto also picked up an award for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, whilst the scarf and Saint Laurent suit were good, the beard and slicked-back ponytail were a bit of a miss.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio
In other dodgy facial hair news, Leo, who won for The Wolf of Wall Street and worked a Giorgio Armani two-button, was let down by a goatee that didn’t do him any favours.
4. Martin Scorsese
The Wolf of Wall Street director’s double-breasted Giorgio Armani worked a classic Italian-American style and could’ve been plucked from any number of his classic Mobster films, definitely picking up our award for best-dressed elder statesman of the evening.

5. Idris Elba
Idris’ tieless Gucci three-piece in navy had a touch of Mandela’s relaxed approach to formal wear about it, even though the film didn’t pick up any prizes on the evening.
7. Orlando Bloom
Orlando was also in navy, his Lanvin one-button tuxedo with a darker, lapel-less collar worked well. Bravo.
8. The Breaking Bad boys
Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston (the latter picking up the award for Best Actor in a TV series at the third time of asking) worked well together in matching Burberry even if Bryan Cranston’s dark blue tie pin was a bit an unnecessary too far.
