Listen up Downton fans, in this week's issue of Grazia we shoot with Laura Carmichael. Fashion hasn't been high on the agenda for Downton Abbey's Lady Edith so far, but off-screen Laura is a major style player - she counts Christopher Kane and Erdem as close friends. As for her style DNA Laura likes to be 'scruffy' by day and tailored by night. It's not surpring then that she countrs Patti Smith and Diane Keaton as her style icons.
Laura tells Grazia that Beyonce is a fan of the show as at the Met Ball she shook her hand and said 'I love your show.' As you would expect this made Laura a liiiitle giddy, as she said: 'I was like, "Shut up! I'm still not sure that acually happened!"
The fans don't stop with Queen Bey, as Laura tells us 'Mick Jagger introduced himself at last year's Met Ball and Ronnie Wood recently told Hugh Bonneville that The Rolling Stones watch the show. The Middletons also visited the set a while back. James made us some cakes which I enjoyed.'
In her Grazia editorial Laura gets grunged in a Christopher Kane midnight blue velvet dress, a Miu Miu oversized overcoat and belt and ripped Kane denim. Grazia's Senior Fashion Editor Gemma Hayward explains the look: 'I decided to style Laura in a grungy/rocky way as its the opposite of how I've seen her shot before in the style press and is very far removed from her Downton Abbey character. With the nineties being such a big trend this season, it was the perfect look for her and more in tune with her personal style. Laura really enjoyed having a try on of all the clothes and fell in love with the deconstructed velvet dress by Christopher Kane which looked absolutely beautiful on her.'
