Is 'Girls' Going Glam For Season 3? Stylist Shirley Kurata Talks Official Poster

Has Girls had a style glam-over? It's been the question on everyone's lips ever since the unveiling of season three's official poster and now we've finally got some answers. And the answer is NO. Phewf! We love their approachable, adorkable unkemptness. Shirley Kurata, who styled Hannah, Jessa, Shoshanna and Marnie for the 'fairytale grunge' teaser told Fashionista: 'I don’t think there’s any connection with this shoot to what happens in the show, this is more of a make-believe scenario.'

The poster is quite a departure from previous season teasers which saw the girls with customary glum expressions and a healthy dose of thick, woolly tights on show. While this, on the other hand... Fancy Manhattan apartment? Check. Evening gowns with lashings of netting and taffeta? Check. Gobstopper rings and Liz Taylor-esque necklaces? Check. And laughing! Shoshanna and Marnie are chuckling their heads off. Yep, it’s like Carrie and co never left our TV screens.

Reportedly having been given the task of challenging the stereotypical princessy image, Shirley dug deep into the psyche of each individual girl, dressing Hannah in grey, Jessa in vintage - accessorised with her trusty boots, of course, Marnie in two gowns, one on top of the other and Shoshanna in pink with pink tulle. She told Fashionista: 'It was decided from the beginning that they would be in gowns, but it wasn’t so much to show the glamour of their lives, but the struggles and angst of their ‘happily whatever after’ existence. I call it the antithesis of the Cinderella story.'

So what else do we know about the new season? From the recently released trailer, it seems that Hannah is in therapy, Shoshanna is sporting some brilliant hair buns not to mention great sunglasses, while Jessa is wearing enviably excellent lipstick.

Tune in for the double premiere on 12 January. We can’t wait! Have we already mentioned that?
