Galliano Set To Do a Tell All TV Interview? We Chart His Comeback

Ever since John Galliano fell so spectacularly from grace, commentators have been predicting a phoenix-like rise from the ashes. We've already reported on Galliano's upcoming Vanity Fair interview, which sources suggest will be featured in the magazine's July issue, but now news has emerged that the extravagant designer will be doing a tell-all sit-down interview as part of his rehabilitation.

WWD has quoted industry insiders who suggest that instead of the tried and tested Oprah route (hello, Lance Armstrong), Galliano is said to be in talks with Charlie Rose's talk show - the PBS nightly programme that engages the world's best thinkers, writers, entertainers and scientists. Adding gravitas to his decision to reveal his experiences, Rose's show is more Newsnight than Graham Norton.

This new step towards his fashion rehab has got us thinking about the Galliano Comeback. Below, we chart the fall and rise of the inimitable fashion showman.

1. The Scandal - February 25th 2011

Dior announces that it has suspended creative director John Galliano following his arrest over an alleged anti-Semitic tirade in a Paris bar. The same day a video of Galliano on similar rant is released and then licensed to The Sun.

2. Paris Fashion Week March - 2011

Galliano's spectacular fall is the story of the fashion season. Later in the month Dior announced it had begun procedures to dismiss the designer. Galliano apologises 'unreservedly' for his behaviour and enters rehab.

3. The Wedding - July 1st 2011

Kate Moss marries Jamie Hince wearing a dress made by Galliano. While many in the industry have distanced themselves from the designer, some including Sex & The City stylist Patricia Field defended the designer.

4. Conviction - 8th September 2011

Galliano found guilty of making anti-Semitic remarks and ordered to pay a total of €6,000

5. Anna Wintour Power - July 2012

Galliano was pictured lunching with Vogue US Editor in Chief. The meeting came hot on the heels of reports that Galliano had met with Grace Coddington the previous April.

6. The New York Connection - February 2013

Galliano works with New York designer Oscar de la Renta to create his A/W 2013 collection. During fashion week Galliano is pictured on the cover of the New York Post wearing what the paper described as 'Hasidic costume.'

7. Galliano the Tutor - May 2013

Rumours that Galliano is set to be instated as a tutor at both Central Saint Martins and Parsons - both top fashion colleges circulate. Galliano is spotted doing his regular crit (which has been  longstanding commitment) at CSM, but no more permanent position is announced. Parsons announce Galliano will be taking a three-day masterclass, but students protest and earlier this month the class is cancelled.

8. The Tell-All - July? 2013

With the Vanity Fair interview confirmed and the TV interview above mooted, Galliano's new strategy appears to be to speak directly to the dissenting public. With a so far erratic comeback journey, the designer will be hoping that the reveal helps him to win over his critics.

Réka Kovács (Fri May 17 13:22:27 BST 2013): Marc Jacobs destroyed Galliano's career. He's always hated him. He wants to control the whole fashion world. Jacobs has been cruelly torturing a talented young girl for 5 years. He stole her designes. She is called Angel Barta. Read the shocking details on: styleangelique. blogspot. com

Anita Rivas (Fri May 17 18:02:39 BST 2013): My advice to Angel, change your name, cut your hair and wear all black - disguise yourself and get a job as a creative art director - if he's really copying you, you should bring it to the luxury houses.
