Four Ways To Do Pre-Fall’s Punk Trends With’s Fashion Director Leila Yavari

17 June 2013 by

Every time we have a quick fashion catch-up with’s Fashion Director, Leila Yavari we leave feeling psyched about style and rather jealous of her ridonkulously good looks and impressively chic wardrobe. So when she offered to take us through her top four ways to do punk via the Pre-Fall collections, we said ja bitte! (If that seems random, let us explain:’s HQ is in Germany).

In this week's copy of the mag (out tomorrow!) you'll find Leila's top Pre-Fall tips included in a 3 page shopping special, where all of the major fashion buyers have revealed the items that will fly out of store quicker than you can say "Valentino Rockstud".

‘Not necessarily the angst-filled punk of yesteryear, this season’s subversive trend offers a sumptuous take on the eighties subculture,’ Leila explains of the punk-spirited outfits she’s modelled below, ‘Go heavy on the hardware for a style with street cred, or add a touch of gilded stud embellishment for a pretty punk iteration. Imbued with rebel-girl chic, this season proves that the classic sartorial rules are made to be broken!’

Without further ado, let’s see Leila’s punk looks!

Amp up your go-to casual style with edgy, punk-inspired elements. Team tailored Helmut leather shorts with a lightweight tee and a Margiela cardigan for layered luxe with a twist. Finish off with statement shoes, like these peep-toe boots from Laurence Dacade, and a studded leather jacket—a rock-chic must-have.’

‘Take it to the street with McQ Alexander McQueen tartan leggings, a draped dress, and a leather vest from Helmut Lang. A Delfina Delettrez spike-detailed leather cuff brings extra edge to this androgynous ensemble that takes inspiration from the seminal rockers who graced the CBGB stage.’

‘Who says punk can’t be pretty? With London designer Roksanda Ilincic’s playful take on classic punk-inspired tartan, feminine silhouettes and couture-like details add a stylish juxtaposition to this tried-and-true print. To downplay the femme-factor, toughen up with a supple leather biker jacket.’

‘Go for unapologetically sexy in a second-skin Jitrois leather skirt and Balmain cropped bustier top. Add a pop of punchy color to the mix with a cerulean blue silk bomber jacket and metallic accessories to amp up the glam factor.’
