Flashback Friday: Ascot Through The Ages

Earlier this week we headed to Royal Ascot to take in the frocks, the hats and (of course) the horse racing. We rubbed shoulders with the likes of opera singer Katherine Jenkins - wearing Roksanda and Philip Treacy – and discovered that monochrome and pastel colours are this year’s biggest trends.

You can check out our best dressed at Ascot 2013 for more, but we thought for Flashback Friday we would treat you to the best Ascot images from the past 40 years.

Recently our Flashback Friday features have included baby supermodels, the Kardashian family photo album and 90s TV shows, but for now, let’s put on our fascinators and get back to the enclosure.

Every year Ascot racetrack plays host to ‘Royal Ascot’, one of Europe’s most famous race meetings. From the royal family looking regal and glamorous to Gertrude Shilling, renowned for pushing the envelope and turning heads with her fabulously wacky outfits off the racetrack, we’ve raided the Ascot archive.

The Queen has always owned racehorses and was seen smiling and laughing yesterday after a win from one of her horses. Take a look through the gallery above from more from HRH, as well as The Queen Mother, Princess Diana and Prince Charles - rocking the double breast jacket, of course!
