The V&A, London’s amazing museum and costume archive has provided the inspiration for a very refined High Street collaboration that we are thrilled to bring you a peek of today – a range of beautiful ballgowns from Coast.
The V&A and Coast have worked together to create the brand new collection Ballgowns, which touches down in stores this spring, and is perfect for anyone feeling inspired to go shopping after sitting through this year’s awards season – the BAFTA's, the Oscars and the Golden Globes, and feels a touch of red-carpet high glamour is what their wardrobe is lacking.
Just look at gorgeous actress and model, Suki Waterhouse, modelling the elegant retro range. The amazing retro hair and makeup styling is making us all want to take a trip back in time to a bygone decade, and the dresses look absolutely stunning. (Not to mention the house!)
We spoke to head of design at Coast, Kim Elliott, who told Grazia; ‘these dresses have been designed in such a special way; the inside of each dress is as considered and beautiful as the outside. The internal constructions are inspired by the couture structures used by the design houses of the 1950’s to the fluid bias cutting techniques of 1930’s glamour.’
The collection is inspired by the hit exhibition, Ballgowns: British Glamour since 1950, featuring amazing couture dresses from through the ages, that dazzled so many fashion lovers - Grazia included - earlier this year.
With access to the leading museum of art and design's collections the Coast design team have cleverly managed to channel the unrivalled fashion archive into six dresses that exude the glamour of the past century. Each style echoes the silhouette and essence of the era it is inspired by, using modern twists and techniques to create something new and totally desirable.
The collection becomes available in the key Coast stores and online this Spring with prices starting from £550.
