Fearne Cotton Gives Birth To Rex Rayne Wood PLUS We Speak To Her About Pregnancy Style And Her New Very.co.uk Collection

21 February 2013 by

It seems like Fearne Cotton has been pregnant for ages, but the Radio 1 DJ finally gave birth to her first child with partner Jesse Wood early this morning. Fearne tweeted "Jesse and I are over the moon to announce the arrival of Rex Rayne Wood born on the 21.2.13 ♥ beyond in love." Rex Rayne Wood sounds like the name of a rock star in the making, which is apt considering the wee nipper's grandfather is Rolling Stones hell raiser Ronnie Wood.

As well as an ear for music we wonder if Rex will share his mummy's eye for fashion. When it comes to looking casually cool, we always turn to trusty Fearne Cotton for a bit of accesible style advice. Her daily ensembles in and out of the Radio 1 offices provide inspiration – and she’s even managed the mean feat of dressing her pregnancy bump with panache! We caught up with the ever-chipper presenter to chat about choosing Brit model Tali Lennox to front her latest Very.co.uk collection, not competing with her pal and fellow designer Holly Willoughby, and her top tips for pulling off maternity fashion…

Grazia Daily: How have you found adapting your wardrobe to your pregnancy?
Fearne Cotton: I’ve found it interesting dressing a pregnant body. I opted for leggings and baggy jumpers with vans or flat knee high boots in the day and for evening wear I’ve managed to squeeze in to a couple of my VERY dresses just in a couple of sizes up. I also love maternity stretch pencil skirts. I’ve got them in a few colours and have worn them a lot with loose fitting t shirts and tops. I’ve not felt like wearing tight clothes as it feels restricting. It’s all about comfort at this point. Now I’m about to drop I’m even more restricted clothing wise but I love a challenge. I’m finding new ways to accessorise leggings and jumpers every day! Lots of necklaces, hats and Vans with brightly coloured socks.

Grazia Daily: Is there anything you can't wait to wear again?
Fearne Cotton: NICE UNDERWEAR!!! As soon as I can fit back in to normal undies I’m going to splash out and treat myself to some really nice ones. I shall then burn my maternity bra in a sacrificial ceremony! Also my skinny jeans; I’m in no rush to squeeze back in to them but I’ve missed them big time.
Grazia Daily: Why did you choose Tali Lennox to model in the campaign for your latest Very.co.uk collection?
Fearne Cotton: I’m so glad Tali’s modelling my new collection. I really wanted her to cover me whilst on maternity leave as she has such a fun spirit and attitude that embodies what I want my clothes to represent. She is gorgeous and always individual in her style too. I’m so happy with how the shoots went! I popped down to one of them to watch her in action and it was seamless.

Grazia Daily: Do you and Holly Willoughby ever get competitive over your collections for Very.co.uk?
Fearne Cotton: This has never occurred to me. I love looking at her collections once finished but we both work in a very different way and have different outlooks on what we want for our ranges. We both love clothes and getting glammed up but our style is very different. It’s perfect for Very.co.uk  as there’ll always be girls who lean more towards Holly’s fashion preferences and vice versa.
Grazia Daily: What have you learnt about fashion from doing this fashion line?
Fearne Cotton: I wanted to go bold on prints this collection and also mix prints up. Being brave is where it’s at with fashion but sometimes you worry people might think you’ve gone too far with it or will be scared by prints and colours.  I think all the prints I’ve chosen and found work so well together and complement each other in a unique way. I learn with every collection. This time round being a different body shape made me look at the cut of things from a different angle. I’m so happy with how this collection has turned out and I think it’s my favourite yet!
Grazia Daily: What is your favourite piece and how would you wear it?
Fearne Cotton: I love the floral drop hem dress. I featured this in my S/S’13 catwalk show during fashion week and knew it would be a stand out piece then. It’s such a gorgeous floral print that I’ll definitely be wearing on holiday this year. I’d wear it with some sky high Terry de Havilland wedges for a night out or in the day some cute strappy flats.
Grazia Daily: Would you ever design a maternity range?
Fearne Cotton: I thought about it this time around but to be honest I’ve not worn much maternity wear at all. I would almost tell woman to go out and buy clothes they love in a bigger size rather than waste money on clothes they can’t wear again after pregnancy. I’ve been wearing a lot of smock dresses and baggy jumpers which I love anyway. I don’t think woman should feel they have to change their style too much when they get pregnant. I think if anything I’d love to design a kids clothing range one day! I have so many cute mini ideas!
Grazia Daily: What's the most awful thing you’ve ever worn?
Fearne Cotton: I’ve worn so many terrible things! Back in the day when I was doing kids TV, myself and Reggie [Yates] were subjected to a wardrobe of brightly coloured jeans, unflattering tight jumpers and self-inflicted buffalo Spice Girl-esque boots as the cherry on the cake! Terrible times. I think I truly found out what suited me and felt comfortable being a woman from the age of 24.
Grazia Daily: Is there one item in your wardrobe you keep rebuying or can't get enough of?
Fearne Cotton: I have so many pairs of black boots but always want more… I love them all equally and dearly and they all have a purpose and go with everything.
