The most significant new contenders for 2014’s Coachella Best Dressed list were surely Sisters Jenner: Kylie and Kendall rocked various festi-looks with confidence and conviction, leading the charge for a gothic new twist on the traditional boho uniform.
The regulars were, of course, present and correct, strutting through the desert in the chicest clothes to hit these planes since last April: models like Alessandra Ambrosio and Chanel Iman rubbed off-the-shoulder shoulders with Katy Perry and Sienna Miller. No sand storm could stop these stylish ladies in their bovver-booted tracks.
Coachella luvvies, Paris and Nicky Hilton enthusiastically turned up in their trusted hippy garb - as did the likes of a newly blonded Vanessa Hudgens, bindi-wearing Selena Gomez and Nicole Richie’s lil sis, Sofia. But a few stood out for their fresh take. Scroll through the gallery above to see the top 10 outfits – and why we’ve deemed them so damn brilliant.
1. Zoe Kravitz
Like a big ‘up yours’ to bohemian, ZK looked cool as a cucumber in her tank dress, white cap and chunky boots. It was no fuss but still wholly appropriate for the task in hand. Plus, her boyfriend Noah Becker is well fit.
2. Kylie and Kendall in all black everything
Something spooky this way comes! These two were commited to their goth-chella get-ups – from the trinket gypsy-woman jewellery to their painted-black nails.
3. Harley Viera Newton
As cute as a button, HVN looked ultra-lovely in a tropical print dress and matching shirt-jacket set with a pink Dolce bag and her trademark wavy locks.
4. Cassie Ventura
Eshewing all notion of typical field-wear, this girl brought some street cool into the mix. Love the braids and sports top-as-dress combo.
5. Jared Leto
LOL. Special props must go to Jared’s minutely planned and executed fashion ensembles. A casual print clash here, a tied-up shirt there… perfection.
6. Chanel Iman
Giving a new spin on an old favourite, her dip dyed her, crochet vest-dress and Jimi Hendrix-stylee headscarf updated the Woodstock look.
7. Kate Bosworth in Carven
Also following a ‘90s The Craft/goth path, K-Bo looked totes alt in this floral dress, ugly shoes and choker.
8. Rosie Huntington Whiteley
Classic and chic, RHW’s denim shorts and luxe camisole was understated and beautifully placed. Great hair, too.
9. Solange Knowles
Bey may have grabbed the headlines for joining her sister on stage, but ‘twas Solange double tomato-red situation that really caught our eye. As brilliantly off-beat as always, missus.
10. Jamie Chung in pink J Brand jacket
With the simple addition of a statement jacket, Miss Chung has instantly update last year’s festival staples.
