The Dressing Duel: Jennifer Connelly's Hollywood Glamour VS. Emma Watson's Youful Updates (Getty)
There is nothing we love more than a dressing duel! Forget Danni Vs. Cheryl which is SO 2000 and late as this is a real fashion battle: in the red corner we have the spell binding Emma Watson and in the blue corner we have the epitome of Hollywood glamour, Jennifer Connelly! The two actresses are currently on the promotional tour for the new film about that old biblical story, Noah and with every appearance the gowns get greater and the fashion gets fiercer! So we have deciphered the dresses and assessed the accessories to see who is coming out on top in this frock off, the gloves are off....
Round 1: The Berlin LBD
In the red corner, Jennifer Connelly in Lanvin and in the blue corner, Emma Watson in Wes Gordan (Getty)
Ding Ding! Round One and to quote Julie Andrews, let’s start at the very beginning, as it’s a very good place to start! The promotional tour for the film kicked off in Berlin and both actresses opted for floor length gowns with sassy slits and cunning cut out panels except Emma slipped into silk Wes Gordon whilst Jennifer looked super lux in velvet Lanvin. Both made impressive starts but after a long time in the style shade it appeared that Jennifer had risen from her best dressed drought with one seriously stylish shade. Soz Emma babes but the other rounds are yet to come…
Round 2: The Bare-Knuckle Box Off
For Madrid Emma tackled J.Mendel whilst Jennifer wore Giambattista Valli (Getty)
Now for round two! The next stop was Madrid and it appeared that the onetime wizard, Emma Watson put a stylish spell on the Spanish red carpet in a J. Mendel jumpsuit. The hair, the Gianvito Rossi persepex heels and the mesmerising monochrome palette all combined to deliver a direct knock out to Jennifer’s embellished Giambattista Valli Couture dress, which despite the flirty hemline and those killer pins couldn’t quite compete.
Round 3: The Saint Laurent Tux-Off
A true moment in fashion history, the Saint Laurent sass off! (Getty)
Emma Watson strutted onto the set of David Letterman in a show stopping Saint Laurent suit and suddenly everyone in the Western hemisphere realised that Hermione was a fully gown woman who means serious business! Fast forward two days and guess who followed suit, Jennifer, who unlike Emma negated the crisp white shirt and instead created a head to toe black ensemble. Both were impressive attempts at tackling androgyny in a sexy fashion, but Emma was first and sometime it’s a case of first come, first serve when it comes to taking the prize. It will go down in fashion history as the Saint Laurent sass off, perhaps, well may be exaggerating, but it’s almost as ground breaking as the bringing down of the Berlin wall after all…
Round 4: The LA Lock Down
Jennifer took on Emma Watson's Osman dress at the LA press conference (Getty)
For the LA press conference the pair settled into their seats looking every inch the style stars they are! Even though both ladies love a bit of black, Emma bucked the trend and injected a dash of colour via a Peter Pilotto number. The asymmetrical details threw Jennifer’s attempt out of the wardrobe water!
Round 5: The New York Weigh-In
Jennifer was the first celeb to wear Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquiere at the New York Premiere (Getty)
When the crowds gathered for the New York premiere of Noah everyone knew they were in for a treat! But no one expected Jennifer to turn up in Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquiere and be the first celeb to be clothed in the brand. That would have been enough to win the entire wardrobe war and not just this New York red carpet battle. However along came Emma in a black floor length lady-like Oscar De La Renta gown… we are sorry Jen but it’s another winner for Watson!
Round 6: The Floral Fight
Emma was flirty in Erdem florals whilst Jennifer delivered a Givenchy Couture fashion flashback (Getty)
Back at the start of the promo tour Jennifer took on the red carpet alone for the premiere of Noah in Mexico City. The Oscar winning star slipped into Givenchy Couture dress which initially hit the runway all the way back in 2009. We love a fashion flashback BUT the embellishment on this floor length gown can’t compete with the details on the Erdem dress Emma wore to the New York premiere’s after party. The look was fresh from the runway, and the actress combated against the period costume vibes by styling the dress in an utterly youthful way. It’s what you call clean cut chic!
Round 7: The TV Show Spar
Jennifer trumped Emma's Osman ensemble with a strapless black jumpsuit! (Getty)
Both of the actresses have been hitting the chat show circuit and opting for very different apparel. Both love a touch of tailoring with Jennifer appearing on the Seth Myers show in a black strapless jumpsuit whilst Emma took her seat at Ellen in Osman. Emma’s hair significantly let her down after hitting it out of the hair salon at every single appearance beforehand… so Jennifer step forward and collect you prize as this ready to wear round is yours!
Round 8: The Final Fash Fight
For the London premiere Emma went for floor length Ralph Lauren whilst Jennifer went for fash fierce in Alexander McQueen (Getty)
For the final fash fight the two actresses hit the icy red carpet in our fair capital. Jennifer turned herself into a bird of fashion paradise in a feathered gown from Alexander McQueen, which is no easy thing to pull off and boy did the Oscar winner look at her most fash fierce. However sometimes simplicity is SO the way forward and when Emma Watson climbed out of her limo and swaggered down the red carpet with her split hem Ralph Lauren dress swishing around her Jimmy Choo cladded feet it was clear that there could only be one winner. The execution was pitch perfect, the look was kept clean yet retained a hint of an edge via her Ana Khouri ear cuff, Jimmy Choo clutch and her layered Monica Vinader rings. Her new stylist, Sarah Slutsky is certainly turning Emma Watson into one of THE most stylish people on the earth. We give you one serious style salute Emma!
And the winner is... EMMA WATSON! Emma, your prize is a gallery of your greatest hits...
