Livia Firth at the Vanity Fair Oscar party
Livia Firth - wife of Oscar-winner Colin Firth and environmental campaigner is in Cannes right now, where she is working with jewellers Chopard, launching their range; The Journey to sustainable luxury. She is already well known for bringing a touch of glamour to environmental causes by wearing sustainable fashion on the red carpet. Now she's turning her attention to jewellery. Grazia Daily decided to catch up with the very fragrant Livia, to find out a little bit about the project, and also a few more snippets about how to survive the red carpet at glamorous international movie events.
Grazia Daily: Tell us about why you wanted to get involved with Chopard
Livia Firth: Traceability and ethical production are a very hot topic right now. We all love to sparkle, and when I first learnt that there are 15 million men and women using little more than stone age tools to dig precious metals from the valleys and hills from south America to South Africa, I was both shocked and determined to find a champion to help do something about it. I found two - one is Chopard and the other The Alliance for Responsible Mining - an amazing NGO that supports Artisanal and Small-scale Mining communities in South America and created the Fairmined certification.
Grazia Daily: You are a stalwart of the red carpet - what are your top red carpet tips?
Livia Firth: Wear beautiful stories on you and you will always walk the red carpet chin up and with great pride
Livia Firth and Anna Wintour at Chanel - sharing some fashion gossip
Grazia Daily: What has been your favourite red carpet outfit of all time? And your biggest red carpet mistake?
Livia Firth: Every time I walk the Red Carpet I think 'this is the best dress that I have ever worn'. [And mistakes]; probably many, but what I learnt very well is never to have a long train on your dress!
Grazia Daily: Cannes is the most amazing showcase for jewellery - what's your personal taste - is more, more or is about being more subtle with your bling?
Livia Firth: Personally, I love simplicity and subtleness but, when the occasion is right then sometimes beautiful bling is a must.
Grazia Daily: What is on your Cannes must see list this year? Have you seen Gatsby?
Livia Firth: The Green Carpet Challenge Chopard launch of The Journey obviously!
